Tree Yoga
Tree Yoga involves spending a significant amount of time with trees. It means attending to their beauty, vibration and frequency by showing up and surrendering to their "story." Trees are some of the kindest and most highly intelligent beings on earth.
After years of practicing various mind-body disciplines/ traditions, it became clear to me that the practice of what I've come to call Tree Yoga embodies every element/ attribute found in other traditions. Each tradition has its strengths and foci as well as its shortcomings. If we are limitless and infinitely potent, then our practice must be open ~ free of dogma and limits ~ to reflect and support that limitlessness and potency.
In my personal experience, I have found no greater study with regard to experiential anatomy, dance, and the rich movement of body, mind and spirit than with trees. Allowing enough time for the embrace of our brothers and sisters in the plant kingdom has revealed to me a rich source of tangible, healing wisdom.
Tree Yoga plays with principles found in Quantum Physics, biology, chemistry, Contact Improvisation, martial arts, shamanism, and yoga. As a moving meditation, it is based in attention, intention, and the ability to respond. It offers an experiential, direct knowledge of anatomy and physiology, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, life energy, grace, self-awareness, and emotional fluency.
God's intelligence shapes trees. When we bend and flow in relation to them, we allow them to form us and our body-mind harmonizes then with natural laws, free of human error and false interpretation. Our limitless potential to create and become is activated along with innate intelligence, beauty, and grace. Hallelujah!
Tree Yoga can be vigorous and extremely physical as well as gentle, safe and easy, so you can begin at any level of study. It is important to start where you are comfortable and to simply have fun. I often spend an entire session at the base of a tree, so climbing is not necessarily a part of it. Whatever your unique expression of Tree Yoga becomes, there will be development within ALL systems of the physical body, not to mention the energetic and subtle bodies.
